Aboriginal Carrying / Digging Bowl (also called a Coolamon or a food gathering bowl) - Timber, Hand-Painted featuring modern Aboriginal art design painted by an Australian Aboriginal artist. Dimensions: approximately 33-40cm long, 17cm wide and 6cm deep
These Aboriginal hand-carved wooden carrying vessels were traditionally used by Indigenous women to carry water, fruits, nuts, as well as to cradle babies (with the cushioning of a soft paperbark inner lining). Today when women gather bush tucker, in some regions they still use a the coolamon while others use a billy can, bucket or flour tin. Coolamons were carried on the head when travelling any distance, or under the arm if used as a cradle.
