Dorothy Jacky

dorothy

Dorothy Jacky was born and raised in Kempsey, New South Wales and given the tribal name of Ngarin, which means "big sister". Her Tribal group, which is located on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, is called Dunghutti.

Dorothy first discovered her interest in painting seven years ago, and has studied Aboriginal Arts and Cultural History at TAFE, which has helped to further develop her skills.

Her inspiration is drawn from the bush and her natural surroundings, and she paints using traditional colour schemes depicting movement and travel which helps her to express her culture.

Ian Porter

Ian

Ian was born in Moree, New South Wales and has spent most of his life there. Ian is a descendant of the Gamilaroi tribe as is Colin Wightman another of Australian Aboriginal Art's indigenous artists. The Gamilaroi tribe is located in northern NSW and is where Ian first discovered his talent for painting at the age of 19.

Ian Porter is an exceptional artist tending to keep with traditional colour schemes. He varies his style of art depending on the products he is painting, using larger dot art for stoneware vases and bold line work on his animals, whilst preferring intricate dot art and fine line hatching for wave top pieces.

Ian is inspired by his elders and finds painting a great way to relax. His talent has been recognised by others when one of his three-piece canvases, a painting of the Rainbow Serpent, was displayed in the Moree Art Gallery.

Sue was born in Bundaberg, QLD and is a half-descendant of the Goreng tribe from the local region just north-west of Bundaberg in Queensland. She creates design ideas through dreams and direct inspiration during the actual process of putting paint to canvas (or even emu eggs) and has had no formal training as an artist.

"I am half South Sea Islander and half Aboriginal, from the Goreng tribe.  I don't know where my ideas come from. At times, I also like to paint using other decorative and new age styles, although my husband says that I should just paint indigenous", says Sue.

Sue generously shares proceeds from her artwork with a cohort of youth from the Bundaberg Multicultural Youth Group. So in purchasing one of her paintings, you are giving to a very worthy social cause.

Geneine Townsend

Nene (Geneine) was born in Blacktown NSW and is a descendant of the Wiradjuri tribe from the Central West of New South Wales. She has lived on the Gold Coast (in Queensland) since the age of 11 and has had no formal training as an artist.

"I have always liked painting and drawing since High School and particularly enjoy painting murals depicting themes from my natural surroundings of the ocean and water using blue as a background and modern techniques like sponging to add depth to my pieces", says Nene.

Nene has found that through her painting she has best been able to re-discover herself and look more seriously into her culture.
